For Agronomists
The AMA recognises the vital role agronomists play in advising growers and assisting them to grow the best performing and most valuable crops possible in the longer term.
The AMA produces a range of materials and courses to assist agronomists to play this important role including Variety Management Packages (VMP) and agronomy courses conducted by our experienced Industry Development Agronomist together with other government and industry researchers and experts.

Become an AMA accredited mungbean agronomist
The AMA accredited agronomist course has been operational since 2000 with more than 600 individuals participating in the program.
The course provides agronomists with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to assist growers achieve reliable and profitable production. The accreditation program involves:
- A technical workshop that addresses the key issues identified by industry as the main prerequisites.
- Detailed in-field monitoring of a minimum of two commercial mungbean crops with the agronomist demonstrating they can apply the technical skills and processes covered in the workshop. This is an auditable component of the course and the main prerequisite for accreditation within industry guidelines.
- Agronomists are supported with in-crop training sessions on insect scouting techniques and insect management as well as disease diagnosis.
- Ongoing technical support on current research and reassessment of best management practices, with the network of accredited agronomists kept abreast of new and emerging issues, new pesticide registrations or permit requirements.
Practicing agronomists are also encouraged to undertake refresher courses each five years to ensure their mungbean knowledge is current.
For further information about participating in one of the courses offered please contact Paul McIntosh, Industry Development Agronomist at agronomist@mungbean.org.au.
